that fits the work.
The browser activities and native Power BI companions are different kinds of practice. Check which work your device can support before choosing an edition.

Before native Power BI work
- Confirm that you have access to compatible Windows software.
- Open “Documents & templates” in your approved edition and find the Power BI companion files.
- Read the included setup/project guide, download its required files and follow that guide in Power BI Desktop.
- Open, refresh and inspect the report in the native application. A browser metric result does not establish that a native report works.
Core and Advanced include the same three companions. Advanced adds challenges. No native Windows application validation is claimed by this public preview.
Browser and document setup
Use a current browser with JavaScript. SQL work needs browser worker support. Large data tables are easier to use with a desktop-sized screen; scrollable tables and keyboard controls remain available.
Use a PDF reader for PDFs, a compatible editor for DOCX, and a spreadsheet or text editor for CSV. Third-party rendering and compatibility depend on those applications.
Hosted progress needs an internet connection and approved account access. Export a backup before changing accounts, clearing data or troubleshooting.
