Scrum

What it is

Scrum is a popular agile framework with fixed-length sprints, defined roles (product owner, Scrum Master, developers) and events such as planning, daily check-ins, review and retrospective. The Scrum Master helps the team follow the framework and removes obstacles, while the product owner manages the backlog and the developers do the work.

Why it matters

It gives a team a predictable rhythm and regular chances to inspect and improve, which suits work where requirements evolve. Analysts in Scrum teams usually work alongside the product owner, preparing backlog items so they are ready for planning, and clarifying detail during the sprint.

Example

The Pinecrest team plans on Monday, holds a 15-minute daily stand-up, demonstrates finished stories to stakeholders at the sprint review and uses a retrospective to decide one change to try next sprint. Every sprint ends with something that could be used, and the retrospective helps the group become a better team over time.
