Benefits Realisation

What it is

Benefits realisation is checking, after delivery, whether the expected benefits of a project have actually happened, and taking action if they have not. It compares measured results with the business case. Benefits may be savings, revenue, faster service, fewer errors or better compliance, and each should have an owner and a measure.

Why it matters

Delivering a feature is not the same as delivering value. Following up keeps projects honest and teaches the organisation which kinds of change really pay off. Analysts support this by making sure objectives are measurable from the start, so a baseline exists before the change.

Example

Three months after the Brightpath Logistics mobile form, the team compares late-entry errors with the baseline in the business case. Errors fell, but drivers still skip an optional field, so a training reminder is planned. The review is honest about what worked and what did not, and its lessons feed into the next project's business case.
