Business Case

What it is

A business case is the argument for doing a project. It describes the problem or opportunity, the options considered, the expected benefits, the costs and risks, and a recommendation. Decision makers use it to approve, change or reject the work.

Why it matters

Money and people are limited. A business case forces the team to show why this change is worth more than the alternatives and gives everyone a baseline to check results against later.Sponsors can also reuse it after delivery, comparing the promised benefit with what actually happened.

Example

Brightpath Logistics loses time because drivers re-enter delivery notes by hand. The business case compares doing nothing, a mobile form and a full system replacement, estimates effort and benefit for each, and recommends the mobile form as the lowest-risk option.
