Jira Ticket
What it is
A Jira ticket, also called an issue, is a tracked item of work in a tool such as Jira, for example a story, task or bug. It carries a title, description, owner, status and priority. Tickets can be linked to epics, to other tickets and to documentation, and they move through a workflow such as To Do, In Progress, In Review and Done.
Why it matters
Tickets are how agile teams see and manage work. A well-written ticket gives the developer what they need to start, and gives the tester what they need to verify. Analysts write and refine tickets so that anyone in the team understands the goal, the rules and how it will be tested without a long meeting.
Example
A ticket at Pinecrest Software reads: "Show delivery cost on basket page", with a user story, three acceptance criteria, a link to the design page, priority High and the status To Do until the sprint starts. Everything the developer needs is in one place, and the tester can check the acceptance criteria one by one when the work is done.
