RACI Matrix
What it is
A RACI matrix is a table that shows, for each task or deliverable, who is Responsible for doing it, who is Accountable for the outcome, who must be Consulted and who is only Informed. Each task should have exactly one Accountable person.
Why it matters
Ownership gaps and double ownership cause delays. A RACI makes it obvious when nobody owns a decision or when five people think they must approve the same document. It also saves meetings, because anyone can look at the table to find out who decides, who does the work and who simply needs to hear the result, instead of asking around.
Example
For the requirements document at Kestrel Bank, the analyst is Responsible for writing it, the product manager is Accountable for approving it, the compliance officer and lead developer are Consulted, and the support team is Informed once it is signed off.
